PZL P.62 – short description
PZL (Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze - State Aviation Works) industry began to design P.62 at end of spring 1939 under command of inz.(engineer) J.Dabrowski. P.62 was modern construction, air conditioned and heated cabin, very heavy armament – eight machine guns into wings or cannons into fuselage.
During summer 1939, the model of P.62 was tested in an aerodynamic tunnel at Aerodynamic Institute (Instytut Aerodynamiczny) with very good results. Constructors proposed that the P.62 could reach speeds of almost 700 km/h.

4/10/11: P.62 nearly done at 7lb 3 oz.
3/16/11: The p.62 is ready to cover... I need to do final "ding" repair and sanding. It is in Already To Cover (ARC) state
2/22/11: A little more progress on the wing. Completed the retract installation, formed the wingtips and completed sheeting the trailing edge and ailerons.

02/14/11: I spent some time researching the P.62 and decided to install retracts for the main gear. The aircraft had the gear retract outward like the Spitfire, ME-109. So I am designing it to be the same. I hope the photo reflects the setup. |
02/13/11: Even with a houseful of company and grandkids, I was able to finish planking the fuselage and started the wing construction. Using wood glue means slow construction. I used thin odorless CA from Prop Shop to install the ribs -- so far no side effects. Keep building.
02/10/11: Planking my "bird" is going so sloooow... (watching paint dry). I am using wood glue and cutting the individual strips to apply to the upper surface. It is very relaxing. I hope everyone is enjoying their own projects.

02/09/11: Working on modifying my plane to resemble a PZL P-62 fighter. This photo shows the turtle deck and the formers for the top of the fuselage. |
PZL industrye began to design P.62 at end of spring 1939 under command of inz.(engineer)J.Dabrowski – the constructor of excellent bomber P.37 Los. P.62 was to have very modern construction, air conditioned and heated cabin, full night installation and very heavy armament – eight machine guns into wings or cannons into fuselage.
During summer 1939 model of P.62 was tested at aerodynamic tunnel at Aerodynamic Institute (Instytut Aerodynamiczny) with very good results. Constructors counted that P.62 can reach speed almost 700 km/h.
PZL built one 1:1 scale wooden dummy of P.62, which was accepted by army. Polish Air Force ordered three prototypes of P.62, two flying and one for ground tests. Its possible that some components were modeled on Spitfire because Poles had some documentation for this fighter (Polish Air Force ordered Spitfires before war but first Polish Spitfire Mk.I was stopped by Rumanians in September 1939).
First flight of PZL P.62/I(first prototype) was planned for early 1940. First full developed P.62 was to enter service at 1942. Exact state of P.62 works at September 1939 is nor known. Its possible that Germans captured dummy and some documentation. Unfortunately some of German files are top secret yet. Maybe some day we will can know more? |

02/02/11: Finally starting to build my XtickC project. It will be a low wing with changes to tail feather outlines and will be a tail dragger
